The Product
Tupy Corantes is a traditional Brazilian fabric dye brand that wanted to make fabric dyeing more approachable and less intimidating for its customers. Many users felt uncertain about how to calculate the correct amount of dye or feared wasting fabric and materials while trying to achieve a desired color. To solve this, the project focused on creating a simple and intuitive mobile app that guides users through the dyeing process, helping them confidently achieve better and more predictable results with Tupy’s products.

Problem
Artisans and creators who work with fabric customization want to achieve the ideal color for their projects, but calculating the correct amount of dye based on fabric weight and material type can be difficult and intimidating. As a result, many users either avoid purchasing the product or end up with inconsistent and unsatisfying dyeing results.
Solution
Design a simple and intuitive dye calculator that helps artisans and fabric customization creators confidently achieve the ideal color for their projects, improving the real-life product experience through guided calculations, color experimentation, and accessible educational tools.
Process + Key insights
I talked with the company CEO to understand dye mechanics and conducted a benchmarking research on color mixing apps.
- Brazilian Gen Z increasingly adopts DIY and upcycling fashion;
Small creator businesses are increasingly driven by customization and sustainable production;
- Cosplayers & Costume Makers dye fabrics for
accuracy and match exact tones;
- Fashion Students & Design Schools work with
textile experimentation;

- Carnival & Festival Costume Makers could support seasonal campaigns.

Color mixing UX/UI benchmarking

Problem statement
How might we create a simple fabric dyeing experience for makers who struggle to achieve accurate colors and avoid wasting materials, while increasing product adoption, customer trust, and repeat purchases for Tupy Corantes?
- Help customers obtain the exact dye formula needed to achieve their desired fabric color.
- Virtually combine our dye colors using a proprietary color database.
- A “Color Finder” tool that uses the camera to capture a color and identify the dye mixture from our database that matches it.
- A bleaching effect preview with animations showing how colors change after applying bleach.

User journeys

Visual design
Defining the overall visuals.
I designed the app icon and a set of custom illustrations using typography and colors inspired by the brand’s original visual identity.
Design 01
Designing a simple fabric dyeing experience for makers.
The interface was designed to be clean, intuitive, and minimalistic, allowing users to access all core functionalities directly from the home screen. The layout prioritizes ease of use and quick navigation, while also providing a convenient preview of the latest colors and formulas saved by the user for faster future access.
Design 02
Mixing different hues of dye to achieve the ideal color in seconds.
Based on the fabric weight entered by the user, supported by a visual selection of common clothing items for easier estimation, users can mix up to three dye colors to create a desired shade. The calculator then provides the estimated amount of dye powder (in grams) required to achieve the closest possible color result shown on screen.
Design 03
Real-World Colors Into the Digital Experience
Bridging the gap between virtual and real-world color exploration, users can point their phone camera at any object or environment to capture a color and instantly find the closest matching dye formula from the database.
The experience also includes an interactive bleaching preview, where users can drag and compare overlays to visualize how different colors may appear after applying bleach treatments.

Color finder: using your camera to capture colors.

Color bleaching: quick preview of bleaching effects on colors.

Conclusion
Successfully transformed the fabric dyeing experience into a more accessible, educational, and confidence-driven product by combining intuitive tools and interactive color exploration.

Thank you.
